| Practice Description | Dr. Prabha V. Choksey is an Ophthalmologist practicing in Kenya.
She is the Founder and Trustee of Dr. Choksey Albinism Foundation which is a Charitable Trust established in Kenya with the objective of reaching out to and assisting people specially Children with Albinism.
Prior to coming to Kenya in 1987, she was the Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Grant Medical College and J.J. Group of Hospitals in Mumbai, India.
In Kenya, she played a major role in helping people with visual impairment in various capacities as a Lecturer at the Ophthalmology University of Nairobi (1989 – 1998). The first woman Editor-in-Chief of the East African Journal of Ophthalmology (1997 – 2006). She was also the first woman Chairperson Department of Surgery, Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi (1999 – 2002).
Ophthalmic Society of East Africa recognized her contribution by Awarding her the Award of Excellence for outstanding contribution to Eye Care in East Africa in 2007.
She is a proud recipient Bharat Jyoti Award (27/3/2012) in New Delhi which she shares with Mother Teresa and Gem of India (20/6/2012) in Bangkok from India International Friendship Society.
On 12/12/2012 she was awarded the Honor, Moran of the order of the Burning Spear by H.E. the President of Kenya Mr. Mwai Kibaki in recognition of outstanding and distinguished services rendered to the Nation in the field of Ophthalmology and for her selfless and generous commitment to help children with Albinism.
Numerology has been her hobby since childhood. Her interest in people, close observation of various aspects of life and positive attitude have helped her gain a rare expertise in understanding the deeper meaning of numbers and names.
She has authored 3 books on the subject of Numerology.
Her inspiration in life has been her parents Dr. C. A. Gursahani and Sarla Gursahani who taught her that Humility, Benevolence, Compassion and Spirituality lie at the source of all achievements in life. Dr. Choksey Albinism Foundation’s motto is ‘Help Ever Hurt Never’ its belief is ‘Service to Humanity is Service to God’ and its vision is a society in which Persons with Albinism are fully integrated, Appreciated and Empowered to realize their full potential.
Her formula of success is a robust sense of humour, going the extra mile in all her endeavours and balancing her roles of a Homemaker, Numerologist, Author, and ardent Bird Watcher with that of a Competent Clinician.
