Yoga for Wellness Tanzania (YWT) is a non- governmental organisation that was established in 2015 with its mission to disseminate and teach the awareness and benefits of the principles and practice of yoga and holistic care. This has been achieved through training and education of individuals in the practice of yoga, who in turn share this with the greater Tanzanian community at large.
The key goals are to deliver skilled training and education, create internship and employment and spread knowledge. Mukti, our main center in Dar es Salaam, provides yoga and meditation in group or private classes which may be conducted on site or remotely as in the corporate environment. Retreats and workshops are arranged regularly. A portion of the proceeding are contributed to YWT.
As an organization we have contributed in the promotion and development of yoga throughout Tanzania. Our Teacher Training programs which incorporate 50 hours of community service within the health and education system within Tanzania leads to on outreach of over a 1000 people. Giving more Tanzanians and within the rural area also an opportunity be informed of yoga and wellbeing.
Our team run 22 projects consecutively within the health, education and community centres in Tanzania we run yoga sessions and workshops on a weekly bases. We run sessions at the government cancer hospitals, the pediatrics orthopedic and oncology ward, community centers, women with trauma, and several underprivileged centres.
Our goals singularly, are to introduce through training and development/education (teacher training programs), the awareness of the benefits to be derived from the practice of holistic care, yoga principles and methods in terms of well-being and healthy living. Thus impacting not only our students or participants, but also their communities, and our society. As from 2018 we have been crossing boarders with our projects and are now Yoga for Wellness Africa (YWA).
